The Outside — Let’s head out to the backyard where the rabbit barn is located. My family built this 10’ x 10’ barn in the early summer of 2001 on the south end of our Dad’s vegetable garden. Outside security lights are very helpful as I do my rabbit chores at dusk and in the early morning.

The Inside — The barn houses 5 sets of stacking cages, 3 and 4 cages high as you can see in this picture. At maximum capacity I can accommodate 33 rabbits at one time not including kits. The inside of the rabbit barn walls are washable which makes cleaning the barn easier.

To enable year round breeding, I provide full spectrum lighting via a timer each day. A thermostatically controlled attic fan on the back wall draws fresh air through the barn. The barn is insulated and in the winter I maintain a temperature of 50 degrees.

The Work Table — All of the rabbits get groomed and the show rabbits get posed several times each week on the grooming table in the barn. This table is stocked with the grooming tools I need such as: nail trimmers, brushes, spray bottles, veterinary ointments, tattoo equipment, hand cleaners, paper towels, and ARBA Judges’ Remark Cards for evaluations.

The bunnies get education and socialization (I do too) listening to Minnesota Public Radio each day in the barn. The radio is on the same timer as the lights. I have found that hearing the different human radio voices helps reduce the stress the rabbits experience at a rabbit show.

Lastly, my Evan’s Rabbit Management Software helps me keep track of all my rabbit chores as well as Show Points and Legs, Health Chores, Show Chores, Entry Forms and Labels, For Sale & Cage Cards, Pedigrees, Income & Expense Reports, Mailing Lists, Color Genetics, Breeding, Kindling, and Weaning.
